Player / Spies Of Life

0

Although Player lost two founding members and their third album “Room With A View” (1980) was not successful enough, Peter Beckett seemed not to be pessimistic because he got Dennis Lambert to write new materials for the fourth album. “Spies Of Life” was released on RCA Records in 1982 featuring seven songs written by Beckett - Lambert out of ten songs on it. Peter Beckett and John Friesen welcomed Miles Joseph on guitar, who was credited on the third album “Room With A View” as a session musician, and Rusty Buchannan on bass. The founding partner of Peter Beckett, J.C Crowley also contributed to the album as a co-writer with Dennis Lambert on the song "I'd Rather Be Gone'. Due to unsuccessful sales of their second and third albums, this fourth album was underestimated although many good tunes such as "If Looks Could Kill", "Some Things Are Better Left Unsaid" and "I'd Rather Be Gone". Another thing to be noted is that Tommy Funderburk and Tom Kelly were on the record as background vocalists.
After this album, Beckett decided to be a full time songwriter and thus the band Player history stopped in 1982. Beckett began writing hits formOlivia Newton-John, Heart, Little River Band, and many others.
