"Can't Stand Losing You"は、"Fall Out"(1977年5月)、"Roxanne"(1978年4月)に続くポリスの3枚目のシングルで、1978年8月に発売され、デビュー・アルバム"Outlandos d'Amour"(1978年11月)"にも収録されました。オリジナル・ジャケでは氷の上にスチュワート・コープランドが首をくくっています（ご丁寧にヒーターで氷を溶かしている様子）。ジャケの通り「自殺」をテーマにした曲で、BBCで放送禁止になりました。

スティングは2000年の"Revolver"によるインタビューでこう述べている。"僕らはBBCがどのようにしてロクサーヌを禁止したかについて、ポスターによる宣伝キャンペーンをしていたんだ。彼らが "Can't Stand Losing You" に問題があると認識した理由はシングルのカバー写真がスチュワートが首に縄をかけた状態で氷の上に立って、氷が溶けるのを待っていたからさ。」

なお、この不快感を煽るオリジナル・ジャケのシングルは、あまり売れなかったらしく、それなりのプレミアがついています。レコは通常の黒の以外にblue vinylがありますが、どういった順序で発売されたかよくわかりませんでした。なお、このシングルのプロモ盤はこれまで10年ほど探してきましたが、この1枚以外は見たことがありません。
