Billboard 200で1位を獲得した3作目の『ノー・シークレッツ』レコーディング終了後の1972年11月、カーリー・サイモンはジェームス・テイラーと結婚しました。続くこの4作目『ホットケーキ』は1973年10月 - 11月に録音、1974年1月11日に発売されBillboard 200では3位になりました。レコード・ジャケットの写真を撮影したときは長女サリー・テイラー妊娠中だったそうです。自伝的作品とされていますが、確かに幸せいっぱいという感じの内容で、微笑ましい作品です。

なお、アコースティック・ギターや歌ではもちろんジェームス・テイラーが参加しています。ほかE.ギターではデヴィッド・スノピザやバッキー・ピザレリ、ベースはクラウス・ヴーアマン、ドラムはジム・ケルトナーなどが参加。カーリー・サイモンの作品で、音楽としても幸福度としても、1番良い作品のひとつです。
