30+ years of Record Collection in a Showcase
In the mid-late 1970s, Hong Kong became the largest garment exporter in the world and one of the brightest stars in the HK garment industry at the time was Bang Bang Fashions. Backed by a large manufacturing operations, Bang Bang jeans and sportswear were popular with young people and the brand extended to restaurants, TV show, featured films, record label, and even instant noodles......
Bang Bang Records and Films are made under this circumstances. The Record Label is an acquisition from the House Records that aim at producing the best music in Hong Kong.
Although Bang Bang Records didn't last long, they have made some good music for the generation, that is still relevant and worth remembering for these days.
Bang Bang Records
When I started to explore the history of Cantonese Opera in Hong Kong, I came across with a record publisher called "Southen Sound" Record Company "南聲唱片"
They instead take the recording of Chinese folkore music and operatic music and do the mastering and vinyl production in the States, that result with a superb music quality and content, that is still enjoyable 60s years later.
Not much information was left about this record company, and not much material actually have left behind as well, and what attracts me is their sound and music that published and released. Everything I learned something new from it, and their impressive calligraphy, and artwork.

Canto Pop , Cantonese Pop refers to the type of popular music made in Hong Kong and sung in Cantonese.
Strangely, compare with the haydays in pop music in Japan or Korea that called themselves J-Pop or K-Pop. We don't called it H-Pop (Hong Kong Pop). One of the reasons that prior to that people can made records sung in English or Mandarin (or even Phillipines) in Hong Kong and can still made the charts.
Most historian recognised the start of the Canto Pop in 1974, when a TV drama song took over the popularity in Hong Kong and in the mid 80s, Canto Pop took popularity in all the Asian countries as well.
This room includes the my favourite albums released by the Canto Pop era.
I arranged this in a chronlogical order, so that you can also see how the album design taste changes through the years.
