Back in 2004, the Aston Martin Racing team was formed as a partnership between Aston Martin and Prodrive with the plan of developing and racing a GT racing car based on the Aston Martin DB9 model. For those that may be unaware, Prodrive was responsible also for developing one of the racing versions of the Ferrari 550 Maranello. Despite not having factory support, the cars would actually win multiple championships as well as winning the GTS class in Le Mans, beating the factory Chevrolet Corvette entries. Back to the DBR9, it was first raced in the 2005 Sebring 12 Hours where one of the cars finished 4th overall and winning the GT1 class. The car was immediately competitive in Le Mans too, finishing 3rd, behind the 2 factory Corvette entries. For 2006, the cars would once again lose to the Corvette but were always competitive. In 2007, Aston Martin finally achieved the LMGT1 class win in Le Mans with the No. 009 car. This No. 007 car would finish 4th in class, I believe it led the race for a bit but for the rest of the race, it did not really have a notable performance after going off the track.
