Whitren & Cartwright / Rhythm Hymn
Jaki Whitren and John Cartwright coming from UK got a recording deal with Elektra when they were making demo materials in New York. And they released this album "Rhythm Hymn" which has crossover sound between British Pop and New York sophisticated blue-eyed soul music. When you listen to this album, I believe you feel New York City Pop of mid 80's. Track 9 "New York" and Track 10 "Goodbye Joe" are really good and they sounds like the tune recorded very recently. Andrew Gold began a career as a solo artist in 1975 with self-titled debuted album. His 1976 second solo album “What's Wrong With This Picture?” and the following third solo album “All This and Heaven Too” were commercially successful. You may feel the mid-1960's Beatles, especially the influence from Paul McCartney when you listen to Andrew Gold's third solo album "All This Heaven Too". "Oh Urania (Take Me Away)" makes you understand his music background why Gold did "Wax" project with Graham Goldman in mid 1980's. You will enjoy "All This Heaven Too", very good Westcoast Pop heavily influenced by Beatles. Dan Siegel
Dan Siegel, Seattle born Berklee College of Music alumni pianist/ composer, began his professional music career in 1979 when he signed to Inner City Records, a New York based independent jazz label and released first album. The following 1981 album “The Hot Shot” was successfully reaching Billboard’s Top 10 selling Jazz albums. Siegel moved to Los Angeles in 1983 after releasing this self-titled album featuring quite many top Los Angele session musicians such as Larry Carlton and Tom Scott. Dan Siegel instrumental music became essential for Smooth Jazz in 1990's. Speaking of reissue on CD, the earliest one was done in Japan by East West, Japan (AMCY-2785) in September 1998.
