Even rarer are the nylon picks with the embedded metal plates that also have a small pinky sized ring attached to them with a small chain.

The obvious point of the ring attached to the pick would be for the player to release his grip on the pick so he could transition to a finger picking style for a particular passage and then to be able to quickly grab the pick again and resume play with the pick.
