[0122] THE MAZDA 323 SALOON
4 DOOR SALOON
For too long now, small cars have meant cramped cars. Economy cars have meant slow cars. Our designers andengineers saw no reason why this should be so.
They felt that a small car could be a roomy car. An economical car could be a performance car.
The Mazda 323 Saloon certainly proves them right. The sleek, aero- dynamic lines of the body conceal an interior that offers as much room as many so-called larger cars.
The secret lies in the fact that it has the same transverse engine, front-wheel drive layout as the 323 Hatchbacks.
In addition to its spaciousness, the Saloon has another feature it shares with the Hatchbacks-versatility. The rear seat folds forward in two sections to provide luggage space that extends almost half the length of the car. Another versatile touch is added when the spare wheel is stowed in its second storage position, making the boot even deeper than it is normally.
To all this roomy practicality, we've also included an air of refinement. The smart velour upholstery, driver's seat tilt adjustment, rear door courtesy lights and tinted glass all combine to give the Mazda 323 Saloon more than a touch of class.
The Mazda 323 Saloon doesn't lack for anything on the mechanical side, either.
The free revving, 1300 cc engine strikes the perfect balance between sparkling performance and good fuel economy.
The all-independent suspension and accurate rack and pinion steering gives the 323 excellent handling abilities plus a remarkably comfortable ride.
Reliable, progressive stopping power is provided by the dual circuit, servo- assisted brakes.
Reliability is another feature that comes as standard with the Mazda 323 Saloon. Every car is subjected to over 2,500 stringent quality control checks during its manufacture, while the body is built to last-thanks to a special five- phase anti-corrosion treatment.
The Mazda 323 Saloon. The small family car that gets a lot bigger once you step inside it.
